Friends of Kailua High School

Friends of Kailua High School, a Hawaii non-profit corporation, is composed of students, faculty, parents, alumni, and other supporters of Kailua High School.

The School is located at 451 Ulumanu Drive, Kailua, Hawaii.  Initially, the Friends was established as an organization much like a PTA. But over the years, the School Community Council took over that function.

The Friends evolved as the primary fundraiser for various activities and capital projects at the school.

Friends sponsored an E.K. Fernandez Carnival on campus for many years, was involved in the Waimanalo carnival, sponsored annual dinners, and was active in many money-making ventures.

Over the years, Friends has funded many scholarships and awards to students with 3.5-grade point average over their school career. In addition, Friends has given the school grants for computer systems, fans in various rooms, and numerous upgrades needed for the school.

Sixteen years ago, as part the Friend’s efforts to support exercise for the students and the community in general, we sponsored a 5K run. The run starts in the back of the gym and proceeds into Enchanted Lake. The run has traditionally taken place in November and special discounts are given to Kailua High students.  Later, a 10K run was added which follows the 5K course but goes deeper into Enchanted Lake. The 5k and 10k are loop runs. See the course map.

Friends also sponsor fund raising activities by the Kailua Band, the Kailua High football and baseball teams, Hawaiian Ensemble, Project Graduations, and many other similar activities.

As a 501(c)(3) organization that supports the school, donations are tax deductible.
